Jewelry? Art? Controversial? It all depends on your point of view when it comes to describing pieces by jeweler Ted Noten. An exhibition at an exclusive department store in Manchester England features a transparent handbag by the Dutch jeweler. This handbag though doesn’t contain the usual phone, lipstick and wallet, rather a gold-plated gun and gold bullet.
The bag, called ‘Lady K’ is part of the Bite The Bullet collection at the Harvey Nichols store featuring hand-made art-jewelry from around the world and is already stirring up more criticism and controversy than David and Posh Spice Beckham’s decision to leave Manchester and Madrid and relocate to Los Angeles.
This isn’t the first time the jeweler has taken controversial pieces and cast them in bags or with gold. Other works by the jeweler include the Ice pick bag, which features an Ice pick, gold ring, synthetic diamonds, cocaine, textile and pearls as a handle. He also took inspiration from a humble pork chop for his Meat-bag; a pork chop cast in acrylic with 18 carat gold leather handles.
